Online Course Overview
Refinery Wastewater Associates (RWA) designed this Online Course to actually be more effective than the original "live" course. The entire original "live" course presented at Lamar University in August 2012 was videotaped. Subsequently the video footage was subdivided into Video Clip segments categorized by Lecturer and Topic. Then, the Power Point Slides were matched up with these Video Clip segments. These video segments were also coordinated with any additional lecture handouts which were utilized. These additional handouts include Auto-Calculator and Modeling worksheets, lecture notes, and a variety of reference materials such as glossaries, charts, case histories, and graphics.
This hybrid Online Course offers the following benefits and advantages compared to the "live" course:
- The Online Course syllabus contains 16 Lecture Topics divided into 42 video segments all between 30-45 minutes in length. This system enables the student to focus on specific topics of interest, and also allows the student to engage the course on their schedule and with their available time allotments.
- Each video segment is available in streaming media for a period of 5 days, so that the student can repeat viewing frequently on particular content of interest. Of course the student can stop, start, freeze, and repeat any footage at any time.
- Each video segment is accompanied by the related downloadable files including the Power Point Slides and the additional Lecture Handouts. This enables the student to operate a split computer screen such that the Power Point Slides can be viewed side-by- side with the video clips. Of course these downloadable files are for the students to keep.
- The Online Course segments are backed up by one-on- one technical coaching support from each Lecturer, within reasonable requests. The ability to access some one-on-one coaching from this group of industry experts speaks for itself.
